The Canadian Women's Curling Championship, known as the Scotties Tournament of Hearts (French: Le Tournoi des Coeurs Scotties), is an annual tournament sanctioned by the Canadian Curling Assocation. The winner goes on to represent Canada at the women's world curling championships and gets to return to the following years' tournament as "Team Canada".
Kruger Products, previously known as Scott Paper Limited, is the event title sponsor. The tournament had been known as the Scott Tournament of Hearts since 1982. However, in June 2007, competitor Kimberly-Clark (which purchased the Scott Paper Company, the Canadian firm's former parent, in 1997) gained full control of the Scott name and certain associated brands in Canada. Facial tissue brand Scotties is an exception – Kruger will continue to sell Scotties products indefinitely, due to Kimberly-Clark's prior ownership of the Kleenex brand – so the event has been renamed with the Scotties brand. The name change was announced shortly after the 2006 event.
The 2008 Scotties Tournament of Hearts was held in the Saskatchewan capital of Regina, from February 16th - 24th. Two years prior, Regina successfully hosted the 2006 Canadian Men’s Curling Championship, Tim Hortons Brier, with its popular “Parti Gras” theme. Building on the success of the Brier’s theme, the 2008 Tournament of Hearts adopted “Hearti Gras”! For the week of the tournament, the accessories of choice were masks, beads, and funny glasses.
The UPS Store was one of the two Diamond-level sponsors of the 2008 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
