Women's Leadership Development |
A turnover trend analysis indicated that women in management at UPS were leaving the company at a disproportionate rate than their male counterparts. Being that UPS believes that its diverse workforce has contributed to its success and will become increasingly important as it executes its strategy of synchronizing the world of commerce, UPS implemented its Women's Leadership Development (WLD) program to address this concern.
The program was first pilot tested in 16 locations in April 2006. The Metro Jersey District was one of those locations.
The goals of WLD are to:
- Improve retention of women at supervisor and manager levels
- Develop women on the management team to enrich our pipeline of talent for higher level positions
- Position UPS for future business growth opportunities with women entrepreneurs
WLD works in harmony with other development programs at UPS. It's designed to provide an integrated and aligned series of tools and practices that brings talented women from the hiring phase, through skills development, and into higher levels of responsibility.
The program is comprised of three interconnected components that are designed to come together to create an environment in which talented women can flourish: UPS Connections, Business Connections, Community Connections.
UPS Connections consists of an internal networking program designed to provide you with career-enhancing relationships with other UPS women, even if you are in a remote location where there are no other women in you Immediate area.
Business Connections is an external networking program designed to help you expand your knowledge by connecting with businesswomen outside of UPS. We’ll help you get connected with professional organizations where you can network, learn and build valuable business relationships.
Community Connections is designed to support development of your leadership skills as you become involved in community projects about which you are passionate.Under Related Files is the kickoff presentation and participant pamphlet describing the Women's Leadership Development program in detail.
